"Kill Switches" Are Now Working On Smartphones

"Kill Switches" acting as survive switch which we expect to work in our smartphones. These switches allow our phones to be turned off remotely if they are stolen. In September 2013, when Apple Inc added a kill switch to its devices, the number of stolen smartphones dropped down to 40% in San Francisco and 25% in New York. In London also the smartphone theft have decreased according to some officials report.

"We have made real progress in tackling the smartphone theft epidemic that was affecting many major cities just two years ago," said by London Mayor Boris Johnson.

There were many officials including Boris Johnson, District Attorney George Gascon and New York state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who are arguing for new laws of making kill switches mandatory.

In California, manufacturers are installing software based switches on the devices, because of which there smartphone theft has dropped down.

George Gascon said "The wireless industry continues to roll out sophisticated new features, but preventing their own customers from being the target of a violent crime is the coolest technology they can bring to market".

As per the National Consumers League, around 1.6 million Americans suffered from smartphone theft in 2012. 

Till yet Apple, Samsung Electronics Co. and Google Inc. have implemented these kill switches on their smartphones and Microsoft is expected to release an operating system for its Window phones.

Apple has done this with their phones. Johnson, Gascon and Schneiderman informed the manufacturers to activate this technology as a default position.
