1. Block WhatsApp photos from appearing in photoroll/gallery.
Block WhatsApp photos in Gallery |
Whenever you will receive any picture on WhatsApp it will automatically get stored into your gallery/photoroll, anyone can see those photos if he is browsing your phone. In order to restrict it in an iPhone go to settings-privacy-photos and then deselect WhatsApp. For Android users it will be a complicated task.
You can use file explorer app such as ES File explorer. In this you will get separate folders of WhatsApp images and videos, you can easily create file within each called as ".nomedia". Android Gallery won't be able to scan the folders coz of this.
2. Restrict access to profile picture
People now a days can download your WhatsApp profile pic and search about you through the help of Google Image search, everything related to you if that same snap is there on your Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn account.
Always maintain the security in this case by restricting your profile picture to "contacts only".
3. Beware of Scams
WhatsApp will never contact users through the app and does not send emails about chats, voice messages, payment, changes, photos, or videos, unless you contact their help and support.
Anyone offering a free subscription, claiming to be from WhatsApp or encouraging you to follow links in order to safeguard your account is definitely a scam and should not be trusted. These links could lead to websites that install malware and spyware or track your personal details.
4. If you loses your phone then Deactivate WhatsApp.
Deactivate WhatsApp |
After loosing your phone you should quickly activate your WhatsApp from the same number on different phone with a replacement chip.
WhatsApp has the security measure that the app can be used by one number on one device at a time, by doing so you can immediately block your WhatsApp and no one can use it through old phone.
5. Keep your WhatsApp app locked
WhatsApp App Locked |
WhatsApp doesn't offer a built-in password or pin, you can use third party apps like Messenger and Chat Lock, Lock for WhatsApp and Secure Chat if you use an Android phone to prevent peeping toms.
6. Hide the last seen timestamp
Hide Last Seen Timestamp |
It will help you as no one can put a check on you when you will come online.
You can disable or restrict who sees your ‘last seen’ time in WhatsApp’s ‘Profile’; ‘Privacy’ menu, in Android, iOS, Windows or Blackberry.
However, if you turn it off, you won’t be able to see other users’ ‘last seen’ times either.
7. Be careful of what you talk about.
Careful |
You should not share confidential information, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, bank or credit card details, or passport or other identification details on WhatsApp.
