Microsoft is already focusing on wearable devices market, after launching the wrist worn accessory in October last year in the US, the company is expanding on availability of the device both in US and overseas.
The company promptly released the sensor intensive Microsoft Band after its announcement. The Band, went on sale in Microsoft's online and physical stores, start selling on Amazon, Best Buy and Target. It will also start taking pre-orders on its online store for customers in the UK.
Though many wearable devices are available in market, let us find out what different Microsoft Band has other than brand recognition?
Specifications of the device:-
- It has 1.4 inch TFT (320*106 pixels) full colour display screen is crisp and bright with no pixelation in sight.
- Display is throwing up key information including the number of steps you have taken that day, kilometres travelled, calories burned and heart rate within a few taps.
- Band is compatible with iOS 7.1 upwards. Android 4.3 upwards and Windows phone.
- It has the option that if its once synced with your smartphone, you can read emails and texts, ask personal digital assistant Cortana questions, see incoming calls and check your dairy for upcoming events as you would on a phone.
- You can tap out basic replies using a QWERTY keyboard.
- 10 sensors tracking everything from GPS & skin temperature to the level of exposure to UV light and optical heart rate marks.
- Detailed health monitoring via Microsoft Health App on your phone.
- Its sleep monitoring capability, tells you how much actual sleep you should take, how many times you woke up during the night and how many calories you have burned.
- When you are running the Band gently vibrates to tell you when you have covered a kilometre and in what time.
- Microsoft has partnered with Nuffield Health to create a series of downloadable workouts, short videos are available to watch on your phone if you are unsure of any particular moves and the Band buzzes to alert you when to rest and move onto the next set of reps.
- The Band is limited in terms of new apps.
- Band is only water resistant, it's not waterproof, so no swim tracking.
- It has solid battery life of around two days following moderate to heavy use.
The Microsoft Band is comfortable to wear, easy to use and its awkward appearance will give you pleasant surprises. The device has the potential to become market leader. It just needs to deliver on what Nadella promises.
The Microsoft Band costs $199 State-side and will retail for 170 euros in Britain. It will also be available at Amazon, Currys, PC World, Dixons Travel, Harrods and O2 stores on April 15.
