Line Invests $42M Funds For Growing Its Network of Services

The famous Messaging App LINE is interested in turning its messaging app into a lifestyle platform. LINE Life Global Gateway is worth $42 Million (5 billion yen), the company owner wants to invests this into those companies which provide on-line to offline, payment, e-commerce, media and entertainment services.

The main focus for this step is that they want to explore more and do not want to rely only on the revenue generated by their messaging app or connected games platform. 

In September the company said that they were delaying its initial public offering in order to expand their business globally. Recently, Line COO Takeshi Idezawa has been promoted to CEO has declared that "the keyword of our future is life, ..... Line is the smartphone gateway for your life".

So far Line has done its first acquisition of MixRadio from Microsoft, taken a stake in Japanese game maker Gumi, moreover it has invested its funds in South Korea's 4:33 Creative Lab Games Studio.

According latest data Line has 181 million active users per month, they have 62% growth in their fourth quarter of 2014 but still less than targets. Due to this they just can't depend on the revenue from their app. Though they are making money by sticker sales and through official accounts run by brands and celebrities also.

Line is more famous in Japan, Taiwan, Thailand. In China WeChat is more popular with 468 million users, which is much more than Line. Facebook's WhatsApp which tops the list with 700 million users. Line future plans include their presence in Indonesia, The Philippines, Columbia, Mexico as well as US. They are trying to offer different services in different verticals for their expansion.

Currently they have launch an App known as Line Pay - a mobile payments service. This app allow users to connect a credit card to the app and make payments at affiliated online and brick&mortar stores. In future it will allow users to send money to one another.

In Japan Line has started food delivery, indoor maps and taxi-calling services. It has launched LINE TV - a YOU-TUBE like video service. Line TV will streams shows from Korea, Thailand And Japan through Android and iOS apps and on the web also.

It's unsure to say or predict that how these messaging apps will perform as lifestyles platforms. Their competitors like Facebook Messenger and Snapchat is also busy in monetizing this.
