Apple is moved further into luxury market with its most expensive and aspirational product. The company has launched its internet connected smartwatch collection, it's price will range from $349 to $17,000 (299 pound to 13,500 pound in the UK) depending upon the metals they are made from and with which straps they are bought with.
Apple's chief executive Tim Cook revealed at an event in San Francisco that the smartwatch will be initially sold in the UK, US, Australia, China and Japan. The company also said that the devices are due to go on sale on 24th April and available for pre-order from 10th April on its website.
Apple's website shows 38 models, that will be a challenge how to market them.
The Watch would lasts for 18 hours between charges, you can use it for a whole day. It will take 2.5 hours to get charge from 0% to 100%, larger model has longer battery life.
The Watch has the Power Reserve facility which means it would continuously show the time for "upto 72 hours" after other functions are turned off. Thousands of new apps had already been developed for the Watch before it will go on sale. Some confirmed apps it has like social networks Facebook & Instagram. car-pick up service Uber and Chinese messaging app WeChat. The Watch can be used to make touch-less payments and receive phone calls.
Apple Watch can be used to open a hotel room lock as an alternative to a key card. We can check the name of the song via Shazam app on the watch. We can also open an internet connected garage door remotely.
Watch already has many functions like GPS tracking, receiving phone calls and transmitting messages but it require its owner to have an iPhone 5 or more recent Apple handset, limiting its potential audience.
The main challenge for the company is that how they will get ordinary iPhone owners to buy the device, because to date consumers have been left wondering why they need them in their lives.
The Smartwatch will track exercise and remind wearers of events with tap on the wrist. It will come in two sizes, 38 millimetres and 42 millimetres, and six different materials including stainless steel, silver aluminium and 18-karat yellow gold. There will be six different bands, ranging from a leather strap to a stainless steel Milanese loop to a bright sport band.
